Chapter 3: Mapping ESB Artifacts to Target Domains Overview of Mapping Sonic Deployment Archives The configurations packaged in Sonic deployment archives are deployment configurations that will be bound to destinations, connections, and the file system in a target domain. Mapping requires that you step through the process of creating the export definitions, the tailoring rules, the maps, and the import rules that will result in a successful import into a target domain. Once you establish files used in the end-to-end procedure of export, map, and import, you can create scripts that automate the process. While it is typical to script the export process to the point where the mapped archive is contrasted with the target domain to review its impact in reports, you can script the complete end-to-end process. This chapter shows how to perform the individual processes, how to script those processes, and how to apply the processes in both static test domains, in dynamic preproduction stages, and in the live production environment. Export Archive — Specify the configuration elements to copy from a source domain manager into an archive file. Export the selected files and configuration elements from the source Directory Service to a deployment archive file (.xar). See Chapter 2, “Exporting ESB Artifacts for Deployment,” for more information. b. Tailoring Rules — Review the default tailoring rules file to see if you want to create custom tailoring rules.
