Chapter 2: Exporting ESB Artifacts for Deployment Using Scripted Builds to Export ESB Artifacts Using scripted builds is a streamlined, reliable way to extract ESB artifacts for deployment. You specify the source locations you want to evaluate for ESB artifacts, and the target location for the output of the export process. Scripted builds have advantages and limitations. The advantages of scripted builds are: ● They are applied against source control repository branches so that all checked in developer files are accessed concurrently and branches can be locked. ● Ant build syntax and operations are familiar to build managers. ● They do not require a running Sonic domain. ● The build files and supporting properties files can be abstracted from the Sonic Workbench install location to run entirely in Ant and a Java SDK. The limitations of scripted builds are: ● They do not support variable selection of files and correspondingly do not support rebuild from an export properties file. ● They are constrained to only ESB artifacts and, at that, exclude ESB Containers. Supporting files packaged into exports must be handled by other export techniques. Important You must have a Java SDK installation accessible on a local or networked drive. You cannot use a Java Runtime Environment such as the JRE installed with SonicMQ. ◆ To perform a scripted build of ESB artifacts: 1. On a Sonic Workbench system, navigate to sonic_install_root\Workbench8.5 tools\eclipse\plugins\com.sonicsw.tools.sonicbuild_85n. 2. In your text editor, edit the com.sonic.build.user.properties file located in the resources folder as follows: a. Edit the line com.sonic.projects.src_list=Dir1,Dir2 to provide a commadelimited list of the projects from which to expand and extract ESB artifacts. Use forward slashes (/) regardless of platform. b. Edit the line com.sonic.out.target=targetDir to provide a target for the output. Use forward slashes (/) regardless of platform. 3. Open a console to sonic_install_root\Workbench8.5. a. Example of a Scripted Build of ESB Artifacts Using Scripted Builds to Export ESB Artifacts The following steps describe setting up and running a scripted build of the Samples.ESB project in a Sonic Workbench installation on a Windows system. While resources in the workbench installation are used, no Sonic components or tools are running. The project used has not been imported, built, or uploaded. ◆ To run a scripted build of the Sample.ESB project: 1. Download and install C:\jdk1.5.0_11. 2. Update the user properties file with the source and target locations, as shown: 3. Open a console window to the sonic_install_dir\Workbench8.5 root, and then set the Java home variable, and then enter the Ant Build command as shown: The output location contains the evaluated and exported file set of ESB artifacts for deployment.
