Nosotros seguiremos trabajando en los países que más lo necesiten. Malí Según un informe de Naciones Unidas de 2007-2008, los países menos desarrollados del planeta son Malí, Níger, Guinea-Bissau, Burkina Faso y Sierra Leona. Además de pertenecer al continente africano, todos tienen en común una situación social y política precaria, poca actividad económica, una baja calidad de vida y la peor esperanza de vida del mundo. Así es Malí, un país enclavado en África Occidental, sin litoral marítimo, con una superficie de 1.240.000 km 2 . (aproximadamente, dos veces España) y con una población de 11.5 millones de habitantes. Con capital en Bamako, el país limita al norte con Argelia, al este con Níger, al oeste con Mauritania y Senegal y al sur con Costa de Marfil, Guinea y Burkina Faso. Su territorio se extiende desde el desierto del Sahara hasta la sabana tropical y está bañado por el río Níger, que recorre 1.700 km. por el interior de Malí, vivificando las poblaciones situadas a sus orillas. La población de Malí es el resultado de varios cruces de pueblos y civilizaciones. El idioma oficial es el francés y la lengua más extendida es el diula, aunque también se habla sarakolé, tamacheck, fulani, senufo, songhai, dogón y bobo. Esta diversidad de lenguas responde a una gran variedad de etnias que pueblan el país, algunas sedentarias, como los Mandinga, subdivididos en Bambara y Malinké, los Sarakolé, los Songhai, los Dogón, los Senufo o los Bozo, y otras nómadas, como la etnia Tuareg, cuyos miembros viven en el Sahara, generalmente en Libia, Argelia, Malí y Níger, y en menor medida en Burkina Faso y Mauritania; los Fulanis, que, con otros nombres también habitan Senegal (como Toucouleur), Burkina Faso y Guinea (Pels) y Camerún (Bororo), o los Moros, de origen bereber. Aunque desde hace tiempo la mayoría de la población de Malí es musulmana (alrededor del 90%), su culto se mezcla con las costumbres animistas.
