Aqui, socca si mangia
Though its origins are
Italian, any self-respecting
Niçois will tell you that
socca is a local specialty.
This chickpea flour
pancake, popularised in
Nice around 1900, is eaten
with the fingers and lightly
sprinkled with pepper.
In 1923, people began
swarming to Chez Pipo to
feast on steaming portions
hot from the oven. The
original restaurant still stands
– bolstered by its motto, “Aqui,
socca si mangia” – and, very
soon, airport passengers,
too, will experience the
unique flavor of socca at
the eponymous eatery
to open in Terminal
1. The delicious
story of Nice has
more chapters to be
savoured.
Succombez donc !
A NEW LOCATION IN
TERMINAL 1
Provence has long been a fertile land for
the world of good foods. Its abundance
of sweet and savoury delights, crafted
by culinary masters, can be found at
Saveurs de Provence in Terminal 2 and,
as of October, in Terminal 1, as well.
Calissons du Roy René (presented in
an elegant leather box) are arrayed on
shelves beside Mic Mac Macarons
from Bruno Laffargue and Olives de
Provence (chocolate-covered almonds
that look just like real olives) by Doucet;
A l’Olivier tapenade and olive oil offer
a tip of the hat to another olive oil by
the name of Alziari. And all that need
be said about the red, rosé and white
wines from Château Miraval is that their
quality is as renowned as the estate’s
owners, none other than Brad Pitt and
Angelina Jolie. As Oscar Wilde said,
“The only way to get rid
of temptation is to yield to
it.” What better place to
yield than Provence?
