Elle a été baptisée la « Janis Joplin française ». Mais ça, c’était avant. Avant « La
Vague », son dernier album. Avant que, du rock, elle passe au pop. Au jeu des
comparaisons – pourtant Izia est unique ! – on la situe aujourd’hui du côté de
Niagara. La demoiselle a abandonné la langue de Shakespeare. « Chanter en
français me faisait peur. Il m’a fallu désacraliser ma langue maternelle. »* Elle
s’est investie comme jamais, « je suis allée sur tous les fronts : le mixage, la production, les
arrangements, je ne voulais rien lâcher. »* On lui fait remarquer que ses différents morceaux
sont ambitieux, qu’ils offrent des mélodies plus subtiles que par le passé. « J’aime jouer sur
le contraste entre des musiques entraînantes et des paroles souvent mélancoliques. »* À 25
ans, Izia a vraiment tout d’une grande.

She has been called the
French Janis Joplin. But
that was before. Before
her latest album, La
Vague. Before she went
from rock to pop. If we’re
playing the comparing
game – although Izia
is unique! – today we
would put her alongside
Niagara. This young
lady has given up on the
language of Shakespeare.
“Singing in French scared
me. I had to get rid of
the sacred aspect of my
mother tongue.”* She got
involved like never before,
“I was on all fronts – the
mixing, the production,
the arrangements, I didn’t
want to lose a hold on
anything.”* She has been
told that her songs are
ambitious, offering subtler
melodies than in the past.
“I like to play on the
contrast between catchy
music and what are often
sad lyrics.”* At 25, Izia is
now quite grown up.
In concert on the 6th of
November at the Espace
Léo Ferré in Monaco.
