Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami
In 2012, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami welcomed two familiar names
to its executive ranks. In June, Terry Audla was elected president
of ITK. He previously served as executive director of both
Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. and the Qikiqtani Inuit Association, and
has dedicated his career to the implementation of Inuit land
claims agreements and the growth of economic opportunities
for Inuit. In November, Terry named Stephen Hendrie, who has
been ITK’s director of Communications since 2002 and a communications
officer at Makivik from 1991 to 2001, as ITK’s new
executive director.
Terry’s first few weeks on the job were spent meeting with
some of the key figures in Ottawa politics — including John
Duncan, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development;
Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health; and Prime Minister Stephen
