NOTE.—Codium difforme Kutzing (1843b:309) is a taxonomic<br />

synonym <strong>of</strong> C. effusum (Rafinesque) Delle Chiaje<br />

(1829:14, pi. 37), a name that applies to a species restricted<br />

to <strong>the</strong> Mediterranean Sea and adjacent Atlantic Ocean<br />

shores. The Siboga record (Gepp and Gepp, 1911:134)<br />

probably is referable to C. spongiosum Harvey (1855:565),<br />

a widespread Indo-Pacific species. The specimen, which<br />

would permit confirmation, is not among o<strong>the</strong>r Siboga<br />

collections at Leiden (L).<br />

species restricted to warm waters <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mediterranean Sea<br />

and Atlantic Ocean (cf. Silva, 1960:516-521). The Siboga<br />

record (Gepp and Gepp, 1911:136) may be referable to C.<br />

papillatum, but <strong>the</strong> voucher specimen is not among o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

Siboga collections at Leiden (L).<br />
