<strong>the</strong> five original species <strong>of</strong> Lithothamnium Philippi<br />

(1837:387) conforms to any modern concept <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> genus,<br />

proposed <strong>the</strong> conservation <strong>of</strong> that generic name as treated<br />

by Heydrich (1897c:412), lectotypified by L. muelleri Lenormand<br />

ex Rosan<strong>of</strong>f. Heydrich spelled <strong>the</strong> name Lithothamnion,<br />

<strong>the</strong> spelling that has been proposed for conservation.<br />
