Inge Morath e Ernst Haas
durante il loro primo reportage
per la Magnum Photo
CONTRASTO/MAGNUM
La guerra è finita da poco
e i due giovani austriaci
collaborano alla rivista Heute, lei
scrive articoli che sono illustrati
dalle foto realizzate
da Haas. Robert Capa, che dirige a
Parigi la neonata agenzia Magnum
Photo, è colpito dalla qualità del loro
lavoro e li invita ad unirsi all’ancora
minuscolo gruppo di fotografi. Il
primo incarico per i due comprende
un reportage da Capri.
Lavorando alla Magnum Inge
Morath scoprirà nella fotografia la
sua vera passione e diventerà uno
dei maestri del ritratto fotografico.
Haas collaborerà con la Magnum
fino ai primi anni Sessanta per poi
continuare a lavorare per i maggiori
magazine dell’epoca fino
al 1986, anno della sua morte. Oggi
è considerato uno dei pionieri della
moderna fotografia a colori, come
pure l’inventore del “mosso” quale
soluzione visuale per rendere gli
stati emotivi.
Inge Morath and Ernst Haas
during their first reportage
for Magnum Photo
The war had recently ended and
the two young Austrians were
collaborating with Heute magazine;
she wrote articles illustrated with
photos taken by Haas. Robert
Capa, who was director of the newly
established Magnum Photo agency
in Paris, was struck by the quality of
their work and invited them to join
their group of photographers, at that
time very small. The pair’s first task
included a report on Capri.
Working with Magnum, Inge Morath
found in photography her true
passion and she became one of the
masters of photographic portrait.
Haas collaborated with Magnum
until the early 1960s and went
on to work for the most important
magazines of the time until 1986,
the year of his death. He is now
considered one of the pioneers of
modern colour photography, and the
inventor of the “blurred” photograph
as a visual solution for portraying
emotional states.
