References: 3, 32, 72, 158, 417.
Note: Phaseolus marinus was originally published by Burman and
typified by an illustration in one of Rumphius’s works (Index
Alt. Herb. Amboin. 5: 391, tab. 141 fig. 2, 1750). However, this
illustration represents the species that today bears the name Vigna
luteola. Because the name V. marina has priority over V. luteola,
V. marina should replace it. Nevertheless, the name V. luteola
could be maintained if the name V. marina was conserved with
a different type, so as to preserve the traditional use of both
names. In this treatment we use the traditional nomenclature in
anticipation of a proposal to conserve the name V. marina with a
different type; considered exotic and invasive in Cuba by CeNBIO.
