LE AZIENDE INFORMANO
ca-based liquid additive that, when mixed, trigger a chemical reaction that allows the system
to be brought to temperature faster, thus guaranteeing significant energy savings.
Backed by these convictions, EKW is proud to have taken part in the 18th edition of UNITECR,
the biennial Unified International Technical Conference on Refractories, held in 26-29 September
this year in Frankfurt am Main.
The Conference, hosted for the occasion by Deutsche Feuerfest-Industrie e.V. (DFFI), the
German refractory industry association, is an opportunity to share and exchange knowledge
and technologies on refractories.
This year's motto was "the carbon challenge: steps and leaps to master the future", where
manufacturing companies take on a fundamentally important role to achieve the objective
of reducing CO2 emissions and the production of increasingly eco-sustainable materials, in
the hope that the industry may be able to call itself "carbon free" in the not so distant future,
while still remaining competitive.
The progressive replacement of fossil fuels, in processes that require high temperatures,
will have a huge impact on the development of new technologies in refractory materials
which will lead to new lining concepts, together with the improvement of existing ones, thus
contributing to a reduction in CO2emissions.
Also essential is the growing development of a circular economy and synergy between
suppliers, customers and collaborators to facilitate the achievement of the sustainability
objective.
And this is how EKW Group was fully involved both in organisation of the conference and in
the debate that animated it. Dr. Daniel Cölle, in fact, responsible for key innovation projects
and EKW GmbH patents, was a member of the scientific commission at UNITECR 2023,
while, during the “Poster Slam”, his colleague from EKW Italia, Mr. Alessio Vezzuli, presented
innovative solutions aimed at:
• reducing the consumption of refractories using new cement technologies with analysis of
their different compositions;
• a different approach to problem solving inside the furnaces caused by high thermo-mechanical
stress, using refractory materials with an innovative design: high purity of synthetic
mullite + SOL BONDED NCC.
EKW Group has embarked on this journey into the future.
The only way to win this challenge is the global development of the entire refractory industry
sector, where the use of new tools for data analysis, design, research and development of
new technologies will be fundamental for innovation of the entire sector: reducing the CO2
impact and building a more eco-sustainable tomorrow is possible and everyone can play
their part. •
