L’Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) si riferisce all’estensione
e all’uso dell’Internet delle cose (IoT) nei
settori e nelle applicazioni industriali (OT). L’IIoT
consente alle industrie e alle imprese di avere una
migliore efficienza e affidabilità nelle loro operazioni
plasmandosi su applicazioni industriali, tra
cui apparati della robotica, macchine e processi di
produzione controllati da software.
Mentre la tecnologia operativa (OT) controlla le
apparecchiature, la tecnologia dell’informazione
(IT) controlla i dati. In particolare, l’IT si concentra
sulla protezione dei parametri cardine caratterizzanti
i dati ossia la riservatezza, l’integrità e la disponibilità
degli stessi.
L’IIoT offre alle industrie una maggiore integrazione
dei sistemi in termini di automazione e ottimizzazione,
nonché una migliore visibilità della catena
di approvvigionamento e della logistica: questi
vantaggi sono realmente tali solo se l’infrastruttura
IIoT è al sicuro da indebiti attacchi informatici.
Massima attenzione viene rivolta al monitoraggio
e al controllo delle infrastrutture fisiche (anche di
tipologia critica) quali un sistema, una risorsa, un
processo, la cui interruzione, anche solo parziale o
momentanea ha l’effetto di indebolire in maniera
significativa l’efficienza e il funzionamento normale
di un’impresa. In particolare, calando queste
criticità nelle operazioni industriali, la prima infrastruttura
critica da tener monitorata è la produzione,
la trasmissione e la distribuzione dell’energia
elettrica.

and control of physical infrastructures (even of
a critical type) such as a system, a resource, a
process, whose interruption, even if only partial
or temporary, has the effect of significantly
weakening the efficiency and normal functioning
of a company. In particular, putting these
critical issues into context for industrial operations,
the first critical infrastructure to be monitored
is the production, transmission and distribution
of electricity.
