RECHTVAARDIGMAKING EN WEDERGEROORTE.
Er bestaat, als noodzakelijke consequentie van de Methodistische
leer eener algemeene verzoening, tweeërlei justificatie:
de ééne van de wereld, van alle menschen, zoodat
niemand om de erfzonde veroordeeld wordt; i) de andere
van den enkelen geloovige in het moment dat hij gelooft. 2)
Deze rechtvaardigmaking is echter niet, gelijk de H. Schrift
in Rom. 3 : 26; 4 : 3, 24; 5 : 19; 8:30 enz. leert, een impulatie
van de persoonlijke verdiensten van Christus aan
ieder geloovige, ^) maar de toerekening geschiedt opgrond
van Christus' verdiensten ^) voor de geheele wereld. Alleen
de «zegenrijke gevolgen» ") komen den mensch ten goede,
daarin bestaande dat zijne verledene zonden ^) hem vergeven
worden.
De Methodistische justificatie heeft niet zoozeer een juridisch
als wel een ethisch belang; ^) bijgevolg hangt zij ten
