ABSTRACT
The study evaluated the influence of maintenance and operating conditions on the
performance of the STPs in Maringá/PR. In two STPs were raised the
operational/maintenance problems and environmental aspects, as well as a sewage sampling
to evaluate the treatments. In a STP in addition to these surveys, was carried out a monitoring
of 6 months. After collections, were analyzed the physico-chemical parameters of samples
and was verified the index of quality and conformity of the sewer. The system of two STPs is
composed of primary treatment and anaerobic treatment. In a STP is still there an aerobic
treatment and dehydration/sludge treatment. The STPs are going through various problems,
like biological filters inactive until, failures in centrifugal and pumps sludge recirculation and
disruption of PVC canvas of ARFBs. Some units require immediate maintenance, because
changing the quality of sewage from the beginning of the problem. This situation changed the
effectiveness of treatments, because the accumulation of sludge in the secondary treatment
and post treatment of STP. The situation of two STPs is even more worrisome, because the
tests showed that parameters such as COD, BOD5, TSS, NO3 - NO4 - , NH4 + and PT are being
released with concentrations above the a STP, that is, all the STPs are not within the standards
and targets required by environmental laws and Sanepar. Were listed 55 impacts and the
anthropic environment was the factor had the highest number of negative impacts. Most of the
observed impacts is linked to the oscillation of the system's efficiency. It is recommended that
the enterprise to have new alternatives and actions to be taken on the occurrence of
operational problems for which performance is not affected and that the STPs becomes
beneficial from the standpoint of social, sanitary and environment.
