One of its main actions in this area is theacquisition of different types of resources – financial, voluntary professional actionsand different forms of support – transferring them to selected social organizations.Other important dimensions in this quest relate to the incentive to use better techniquesof organizational administration, fund raising and knowledge production, such as theincentive to articulate these organizations with a view to strengthening their participationin the various political spaces.Special mention should also be given to the development, selection and systematization ofinnovative experiences and new social technologies, for future dissemination.The Nossas Crianças Program, started in 1993, invests in the strengthening of civiliansocial organizations that focus their actions on programs for children and adolescents.The aim of this program is to generate change in the reality of the organizationsproviding direct service to children and adolescents in the Greater Metropolitan Regionof São Paulo.The Program has the partnership of Wal-Mart Brasil and Camargo Correa Institute andoffers technical and financial support to the organizations selected via an annual process.The on-site and remote technical monitoring present important results that demonstratethe impact achieved via support from the Program.Special mention should be given to the shelter projects, such as the Menina Mãe – <strong>Fundação</strong>Francisca Franco, Meu Lar Casa de Ismael – Associação Sítio Agar, Sol Esperança – Lardo Menor de Mauá, Criando Asas – Abrigo Casa dos Inocentes and Construindo o Futuro– Sociedade Santos Mártires projects. The emphasis of the projects is on taking the childrenand adolescents out of shelters and returning them to family life: in the Construindo oFuturo project, for example, 90% of the children and adolescents attended were taken outof shelters and returned to their families.In <strong>2006</strong>, the systematization of discussions on the shelter services was finalized, carried outby the program in partnership with the Camargo Corrêa Institute.Another focus that attained positive results was the 2 year support given to thesocial-educational measures project developed by the DIET Institute, in Guarulhos (SP).In this period the initiative followed the progress of 303 adolescents in fulfillment of thesocial-educational measure of community service. Of these, 230 adolescents were assessedat the units that took them in and 58% presented “great” or “good” ratings in theirfulfillment of the measure.Numbers for the Nossas Crianças Program47 projects supported financially2,000 children and adolescents directly benefited by the transfer of funds45,115 children and adolescents indirectly benefited by product and service partnerships and the actions of the Nossas Crianças NetworkThis program brings life to the Nossas Crianças Network, which unites 138 organizations,located in 21 municipalities of the Greater Metropolitan Region of São Paulo. The annualplanning meeting, organized by the Network’s Committee and held at the Centro de Assistênciae Promoção Social “Nosso Lar” – CENLEP (Social Welfare and Promotion Center),had 40 participants.In <strong>2006</strong>, two training workshops were held:Project Development and Fund Raising WorkshopHeld in May, with a daily lesson schedule of 16 hours, trained 26 social organizations inthe Nossas Crianças Network. This action was carried out by the Institutional DevelopmentCommission of the Our Children Network in partnership with Ficas – Fundo InternacionalSócio Ambiental – and hosted by FECAP – <strong>Fundação</strong> Escola de Comércio Álvares Penteado.Communications Training WorkshopHeld in July, with the presence of 18 representatives from the Communication, PoliticalAction and Institutional Development Commissions of the Nossas Crianças Network. Theaims were: to conceive an idea of the communication process, to present the instruments ofcommunication and press assistance. The training was carried out by the <strong>Abrinq</strong> FoundationCommunication Group.Within the context of animating the Nossas Crianças Network, the <strong>Abrinq</strong> Foundationparticipated in and supported the Act against Torture and Death at Febem, in April, <strong>2006</strong>,which saw the participation of around 500 protesters and a presentation by the EURECAblock, from the street children’s project Meninos e Meninas de Rua from São Bernardo doCampo, which is one of the members of the network.In September of <strong>2006</strong>, the VII Annual Meeting of the Our Children Network, Violence AgainstChildren and Adolescents – From Silence to Voice was held at the São Paulo State LawyersAssociation – AASP. In the aim of sharing the concepts and practices relating to the subject ofviolence with organizations from the Nossas Crianças Network, other institutions from civiliansociety and the public authorities. The event brought together 250 participants.60
Funding PartnersThe Annual Meeting saw the presence of nationally renowned specialists such as theattorney general for childrens’ rights, Wanderlino Nogueira, Arlete Scodelário (ReferralCenter for the Victims of Violence of the Sedes Sapientiae Institute), João Trajano (FederalUniversity of Rio de Janeiro), Jefferson Drezett (Pérola Byington Hospital) and FlávioFrasseto, public defender.On the occasion, a DVD of the documentary “Flor de Pessegueiro”, by the Child FriendlyJournalist Ângela Bastos was launched. This DVD was produced with funding from theBetinho Committee and the Santander Banespa Group Staff Association – Afubesp,and publicity was given to the “Afeto” Program. This latter is responsible for a campaignagainst commercial and sexual exploitation and it receives the institutional support ofthe <strong>Abrinq</strong> Foundation.Numbers for the Nossas Crianças Network138 organizations in the Nossas Crianças Network21 municipalities in the Greater Metropolitan Region of São Paulo11 monthly meetings held11 meetings of the network’s administration committee1 annual planning meeting1 annual get-together2 training workshops:• Project Development and Fund Raising• Communication Training41 product and service partnersAs a form of complementing the work carried out by the social organizations of the NossasCrianças Network, the Projeto Virada de Futuro (Future Turn Project), which is sponsored bythe Machado Family, by JP Morgan and by the Hedging Griffo Institute, offers the youngstersreferred by these organizations a study grant to attend professional training coursesor university courses, along with help with transportation and food costs, food parcels fortheir families, monitoring by the referring organizations, complementary activities aimedat broadening their cultural universes and support from professionals from the areas inwhich the youngsters are being trained, who act as mentors.In <strong>2006</strong>, via a study carried out among these young people, it became apparent that 75%of the youngsters supported by this project since 2001, both those who have concludedtheir studies and those who are still studying, have found places in the job market and inthe areas for which they studied or are studying.Administration of the project is carried out with the support of an Executive Committeeformed of representatives of the funding partners, four organizations from the Nossas CriançasNetwork responsible for referring the youngsters and by the <strong>Abrinq</strong> Foundation team.Apart from the Nossas Crianças Program, another way of recognizing innovativeand efficient actions carried out by civilian social organizations is the Prêmio CriançaAward, which is sponsored by Nichiren Shoshu, Santander Banespa and VeiranoLegal Advisors.In <strong>2006</strong>, one more edition of the award ceremony was held and which obtained a recordnumber (333) of initiatives enrolled with a focus on improving the quality of life and thetotal protection of children aged from 0 to 6 years.The selection process for the initiatives enrolled was based on guiding principlesconsisting of directives for attending with quality, incorporating both support for thefamily and community involvement with the questions regarding administration andwork teams.Specialists from the Technical Committee analyzed the enrollments and chose 17 initiativeswho received technical visits in the states of Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco, Riode Janeiro, Bahia, São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul. This initiative uses play as a meansof stimulation for the children’s development.Programa Brasileirinho by Rio Voluntário (Rio de Janeiro/RJ)The Brasileirinho Program invests in the refurbishment and pedagogical work of communitycrèches in the Mangueira, Cantagalo, Rocinha and Copacabana shanty towns, amongothers, in Rio de Janeiro. Since 2000, the program has attended 1,614 children from 0 to 4years old, 111 educators and 20 administrators of crèches, bringing benefit to around 250families via the work of more than 600 volunteers.Educação Infantil “Viver e Aprender” by the Casa do Sol Padre Luís Lintner (Salvador/BA)In 1997, the child education project “Viver e Aprender” was created in the Cajazeirasneighborhood, on the outskirts of Salvador(BA). The project attends 52 children aged from3 to 6 years. Concepts are applied based on the experiences and reality of these children,strengthening local culture and traditions.61
