In partnership with the Education Authorities for West Campinas andthe State Secretary for São Paulo, four of the region’s state schools were selected to develop apilot-project aimed at contributing to the qualification of Youth and Adult Education.At the start of the second half of the year, 24 teachers and teaching coordinators fromthese schools took part in a training program developed by the project in the aim of discussingthe role of education in the lives of young people who return to their school desks.25 guidance counselors were identified from among members of the community in thecatchment areas of the schools, who were mobilized and oriented to support the 152young students aged between 15 and 24 years in the fulfillment of their life projects.The project is sponsored by the International Youth Foundation (IYF) and the Alcatel LucentFoundation. In Campinas, it has the support of the Regional Educational Authorities for WestCampinas – State Secretary of Education for São Paulo, of the Professor Luiz Gonzaga da CostaState School, of the Professora Therezinha da Fonseca Pares State School, of the ResidencialSão José State School and the Professor Dr.Paulo Mangabeira Albernaz State School.Besides this series of articulated actions, the <strong>Abrinq</strong> Foundation has also been carryingout, since 1996, the Educação Infantil Program, in partnership with the Safra PhilanthropicFoundation. From 1996 to 2005, the program was responsible for the construction andimplantation of three child education centers in the greater metropolitan region of SãoPaulo, capable of serving as referentials for attending small children in local communities,generating the exchange of experiences and methodologies. In <strong>2006</strong>, around 390 childrenwere attended by the three centers. From 1996 to the present day, the three centers havealready attended more than 2,466 children.STIMULATION FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY REGARDING THE RIGHTS OF CHILDRENThe <strong>Abrinq</strong> Foundation believes in the enormous potential of companies when theyassume responsibilities to society, invest resources in actions and projects, articulate theirrelationship networks, carry out corporate voluntary actions, raise the awareness of theirclients and suppliers, and work in partnership with the public authorities and civiliansociety toward improving the situation of children and adolescents.The Programa Empresa Amiga da Criança (Child Friendly Company Program),since itslaunch in 1995, has focused on the subject of “prevention and eradication of child labor”as being a priority in corporate mobilization. At a later date, it expanded its commitmentsand invited companies to act in the areas of education and health.In <strong>2006</strong>, considering the tendency of the Brazilian private sector to make social investmentsand broaden the scope of their work in terms of corporate social responsibility, theprogram started a project with the following aims: to perfect the mechanisms for assessment,control and monitoring of the program goals; to render the corporate actions moreeffective and to boost their social investments focused on children and adolescents; and toraise the profile of the program and the corporate actions.The first phase of this project was the analytical diagnosis and field study of companiesregistered with the program. The diagnosis made it possible to draw up a profile of theparticipating companies and their social actions, as well as to underline the need toup-date the focus of the program, to redefine the scope of the seal and to create a newinformation system capable of keeping up with the evolution of the social actions carriedout by the companies.Based on this study, the detailed results of which will be available in 2007, the challengeis to deepen the knowledge of the <strong>Abrinq</strong> Foundation in child and adolescent orientedprivate social investment, in the areas of Education, Health and Welfare, with a focus onearly childhood.In parallel to this intense diagnostic and research activity, 101 new companies have registeredwith the Program, making a total of 1,037 Child Friendly Companies whose socialactions reached approximately 34.7 million beneficiaries.In <strong>2006</strong>, the financial resources invested in actions by the Child Friendly Companiesrose by 7.1%, reaching a total of R$ 551.7 million for the year, and donations tothe Children and Adolescent Rights Funds rose by 124.2%, reaching a total ofR$ 73.3 million.Numbers for the Empresa Amiga da Criança Program101 new companies registered1,037 Child Friendly Companies34.7 million children and adolescents benefitedR$ 551.7 million invested by the companies in programs aimed at childrenand adolescentsR$ 73.3 million in donations to the Children’s and Adolescents Rights Funds64
