Its objective isto promote the humanization of assistance to children through reading mediation.Hewlett Packard - develop a computer system to organize the information flow onchild and youth projects in Brazil.“Empresa Amiga da Criança” - Business as Friend of Children - a project to encouragecompanies to combat the exploitation of child labor.“Adotei um Sorriso” - Adopt a Smile - the purpose is to promote voluntary work toimprove the quality of life of children and adolescents, and it is present in 23 states ofBrazil, working with eight categories of professionals - dentists, lawyers, architects, physicians,pediatricians, nurses, phonoaudiologists, nutritionists and psychologists - to meetthe needs of children and adolescents up to 18 years of age on a voluntary basis.“Garagem Digital” - Digital Garage - aims to collect reference data to implementpublic/program policies to assure the access of young people to information technologies.“Mudando a História” - Changing History - focused on young people and acts in theformation of mediators and multipliers of reading.Notes to the Financial Statements at December 31, 2006 and 2005In reais, unless otherwise indicated1 OperationsThe Foundation is a nonprofit organization, recognized as a federal public service organization,whose main purpose is to promote children’s basic rights, as well as to improve theirquality of life via various projects and encourage the participation of society in general andespecially the private sector.The main programs and projects are as follows:“Prefeito Amigo da Criança” - Mayor as Friend of Children - a project to encourage andhelp local mayors to assume a commitment to child welfare as a municipal priority.“Crer para Ver” - Believe to See - finances projects to improve the quality ofpublic schools.“Cidadania Jovem” - Young Citizen - aims at offering adolescents opportunities forpersonal development, leadership and participation in the community.“Geração Jovem” - Young Generation - supports projects prepared by young people inthe areas of art/culture, memory/history, health and environment.“Nossas Crianças” - Our Children - a project to provide technical and managementtraining for not-for-profit entities and to provide financial support for children.“Virada de Futuro” - Changeover of the Future - invests in the education of youngpeople from low-income families through scholarships. This project is part of the measuresto strengthen non-profit organizations associated with the “Nossas Crianças” Program.“Educação Infantil” - Child Education - implements centers designed to become referencesto children and in assistance and professional training.“Empreendedorismo Juvenil e Microcrédito” - Youngsters’ Entrepreneurship and Microcredit- offers education and microcredit to young entrepreneurs so that they can developtheir business plans.“Prêmio Criança”- Child Award - identifies successful initiatives of the civil societyto contribute to the improvement in the life quality of children from 0 to 6 years old andallows its dissemination.“Presidente Amigo da Criança” - President as Friend of Children - This program represents acommitment on the part of the President of the Republic in the elaboration and implementationof public policies as well as the improvement of the situation of children and adolescents in Brazil.“Observatório da Criança” - Child Observatory - It aims at gathering information andknowledge in the area of children and adolescents, which allows monitoring the publicpolicies to provide attention to this population made available by various channels, allowinginterlocution between the organized civil society and the public authorities, aiming atbetter life conditions for children and adolescents.“Combate as Piores Formas de Trabalho Infantil - CPFTI” - Combat of the Worst Forms73
