Developments in the construction industry are according to many critics almost nonexistent,
which is frightening when the industry production costs are about 150 billion
kronor each year. According to reports, one third of the production cost is composed by
wastage and constructional errors. As more companies have entered the market,
competition has increased. In doing so, the economical margin has shrunk and the
importance of reducing constructional errors and wastage has increased further for the
companies in the constructional industry.
Bravida, which is Scandinavia's largest supplier of installations, is one of those
companies. The authors were contacted when Bravida Ventilation felt they had come to
a stall in their development. After discussing the situation, it emerged that the elements
of the project process in which Bravida Ventilation had the greatest potential for
development, was in planning. Therefore, the authors were given the task of
investigating how the company could improve its planning to streamline the work in
projects.
In this thesis, the theories of Lean Thinking and Project Communication and
organization were examined to see how they could improve Bravida Ventilations work
process in projects. The authors began their studies with participating observations
when they started working at the company during the summer of 2008. Autumn was
devoted to studying the selected theories, developing proposals for development, as
well as to interview company officials and let them take a survey. The proposal that the
authors then came up with was intended to relieve the officials of the parts that
throughout the investigation appeared to be most critical. The proposal is that by
providing support to the set, which by using a new 3D modelling tool can come up with
