Watchtower (P17, F047)This partly excavated feature in Sector A is referred to as ‘Watchtower’ inreports from previous investigations and the circular shape of its main featuremakes such interpretation indeed likely. It was mapped in this season with anearthwork investigation and a magnetometer survey. The latter was greatlyaffected by an electricity pylon that is situated directly next to it; it produceda ‘halo’ of negative data that screens a 10m wide area. Although relativelyweak, the majority of still visible positive magnetic anomalies follow thetopographic changes indicated in the earthwork survey. No additionalanomalies of possible archaeological origin can easily be identified.TekörenTwo fields near the village of Tekören were investigated with magnetometersurveys. Field B and Field C lie in close vicinity to Field A, which had beencovered in 2009 (Fig. 7).Field B (P18)Similar to the adjacent Field A the magnetic contrast between detectedanomalies and natural soil variations was very low, with typical gradiometeramplitudes between -<strong>1.</strong>4 to +<strong>1.</strong>6nT. The instrument’s noise level and minoroperator errors are visible in the data plots. Nevertheless, several anomaliescan be identified (Fig. 10).There are only few bipolar anomalies that are probably caused by modernferrous debris ([21]: 7nT, [22]: 48nT) indicating that the survey mainly representsoil variations. To the west of [22] a string of small bipolar anomalies ([30])has the appearance of a pipe made from short sections of ferrous metal orfired clay (section length approximately <strong>1.</strong>5m), and the anomalies to the eastof [22] could possibly be an extension of this.122
