Editing work and updating
The possibility of publishing part of the data of the Walloon Karst Atlas
collected by CWEPSS has been compiled uninterruptedly for more than 30 years is
an important result.
There was much frustration not to be able to circulate this inventory in a paper
form directly usable by the various recipients, not only in the field but also during the
preparation of management and installation plans. The publication by basin gives a
hydrogeological coherence to the entities presented which was not the case with a
division by province.
Before the work of page-setting and illustration, this edition made it possible
to re-examine all the data in-depth. The large majority of the sites were re-examined
in the field, were photographed and their description was completed by an up-to-date
inventory of fixtures; additional prospection work enriched the atlas with some 60
sites; the bibliographical data and recent discoveries were systematically stripped,
contacts with the council authorities brought precise details; testimonies of
speleologists and naturalists were taken into account; the data of the new geological
and hydrogeological maps were integrated to delimit the geological outcrops and
formations.
In short…it is a very new inventory, more complete and more pleasing to
check out (photographs, plans of cavities, original information) which on 300 pages
makes it possible to discover the hidden face of the oh so fascinating Viroin.
This updating and publishing work were achieved thanks to the Walloon
Region (Subsoil Waters Directorate) that financed them.
