G.4 VISThis map presents the habitats of Vis island and smaller islands around Vis. The smaller islands areBiševo, Brusnik, Svetac (Sveti Andrija), Jabuka, Velika Palagruža and Mala Palagruža. As someislands have specific habitat types the summary will describe these separately.Vis island with smaller isletsClimazonal vegetation of the major part of Vis is the Illyrian holm-oak woodland with common myrtle(Myrto-Quercetum ilicis (H-i.) Trinajsti 1985). In contrast, the most dominant habitat type isIllyrian rosemary garrigue (Rosmarinetalia). This habitat type is dominant through most of Vis (fromsea level to the highest peak Hum) and in some areas is mixed with other habitat types. On abandonedagricultural plots, mostly abandoned vineyards, Illyrian rosemary garrigue (Rosmarinetalia) is mixedwith the East Mediterranean xeric grasslands (Brachypodio-Cymbopogonetum hirti H-i. 1961). Somebig areas of Illyrian rosemary garrigues (Rosmarinetalia) are mixed with the next succession level theclimazonal Holm oak macchia. In some areas the Illyrian Rosemary garrigues are overgrown withaleppo pine forest.Picture 31. The Illyrian rosemary garriguePicture 32. The Illyrian rosemary garrigue inbeginning of succession with macchia. The Aleppo pine forest at the Southern most part of Vis belongs mostly to the habitat type IllyrianAleppo pine forests with phoenicean juniper (Junipero phoeniceae-Pinetum halepensis Trinajsti1988). Some small areas cover the Illyrian Aleppo pine forests with lentisc (Pistacio-Pinetumhalepensis De Marco, Veri et Caneva 1984). Dominating in the central and Northern part of Vis arethe Illyrian Aleppo pine forests with holm oak (Querco ilicis-Pinetum halepensis Loisel 1971). This isbroad categorisation as on many areas which are determined as the Illyrian Aleppo pine forests withholm oak (Querco ilicis-Pinetum halepensis Loisel 1971) there are not many holm oak trees.
