Paul Fürst’s original recipe, is currently exported to more
than 30 different countries.
At Vienna’s Hotel Sacher, the famed Sachertorte is responsible
for about 30% of turnover. Approximately
350,000 of these cakes are produced each year, and about
one third are exported. A few years ago, production facilities
were set up in Vienna’s Simmering district, where everything
is done by hand.
PEZ International AG produces sweets and wellness
products. Its most important brand and bestselling export
is the world-famous PEZ candies and dispenser, which is
sold in more than 90 countries. Furthermore, PEZ makes
compressed glucose tablets and, under the SANA+ brand,
a line of wellness products: vitamin and mineral effervescent
tablets and capsules with various natural
substances.
The wave of innovation has also carried along confectioner
Continental Bakeries Austria GmbH (formerly
Auer-Blaschke). “Until recently, we fi lled our products with
chocolate, and now we’re getting ready to coat them with
chocolate too and develop new products on that basis”, explained
sales manager Michael Wehofer.
At present, the 70 employees at Auer-Blaschke, located
in Spillern, produce approximately 4000 metric tons of
wafers and Kokoskuppeln, chocolate-coated coconut candies.
“We intend to make use of our capacity to increase
production to 12,000 metric tons”, stated the company’s
head, Leo Barenbrok. A considerable portion of what it
makes is already being exported to Germany, England and
Scandinavia.
Muesli bars, from Lower Austria to England: the con stant
growth of muesli-bar manufacturer Gutschermühle,
located in Traismauer, is to a great extent the result of dynamic
export business with Great Britain. “We’ve developed
fruit-fi lled muesli bars for children especially for the English
market, and they satisfy the latest nutritional recommendations”,
assured managing director Heinrich Stefan
Prokop. “This muesli bar, which we produce twenty million
of, is an excellent seller.” In 2007, earnings totalled 14.2
mn euros, with an export share of 85%.
Gutschermühle has a second major project for the British
market in the pipeline: the company will sell three different
kinds of muesli bars with a hemp fi lling and fl avour.
Five million of them will be on the shelves of British chains
in 2008 and 2009.
The next step in the expansion of café+co International
Holding, the leading operator of coffee machines in Central
Europe, will be eastward. Since August 2007, café+co
has been active in Moscow in the form of a joint venture
with local partners, servicing other companies, government
offi ces, airports, theatre buffets and train stations, and has
a presence in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary,
Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina in addition to
Austria, Germany and Moscow.
Once again, Salzburg’s energy-drink producer Red Bull
broke some records in the 2007 business year: its turnover
climbed by 16.6% to more than three billion euros, and
productivity and profi t continued to improve over the 2006
fi gures, which were extremely positive. This brought new
Naturstoffkapseln her.
Die Innovationswelle hat auch den Süßwarenerzeuger
Continental Bakeries Austria GmbH (früher Auer-Blaschke)
erfasst.
engli scher Handelsketten stehen.
Partnern in Moskau aktiv. café+co serviciert Unterneh men,
Behörden, Flughäfen, Theaterbuffets oder Bahnhöfe und ist
derzeit – neben Österreich und Deutschland sowie Moskau
– auch in Polen, Tschechien, der Slowakei, Ungarn, Slowenien,
Kroatien und Bosnien-Herzegowina tätig.
