Public Speaking Competition
Team Speakers
In May this year, twelve of our Grade 11 and 12 students took part in
the annual Pretoria Inter-High School Public Speaking Competition
held at Lyttelton Manor High School in Centurion.
The candidates participated in the team speaking part of the
competition. Each team consisted of four members who spoke on
a particular theme of their own choice, based on a quotation from a
poem by T.S.Eliot.
All three teams performed commendably, and the experience will
undoubtedly boost their confidence and performance skills for any
public speaking they will need to do in the future.
The English Olympiad
When I handed in my exam paper, an unexpected feeling of sadness
overcame me. This might have been because the “Journey into
Darkness” of this year’s English Olympiad had come to an end.
Together we travelled beyond our own horizons and learnt to think
more creatively during our preparations. The theme created room
for numerous discussions and for sharing different opinions and
interpretations on the stories written by various authors and their
perspectives on the darkness in man’s heart. I think that we all
received our reward and can be proud of ourselves for having taken
up the challenge.
