The Class Trip
We grade eights went on memorable trip that will forever be
embedded in our memories. We will also remember the ride there.
When we arrived at the camp premises, we immediately noticed
how enormous and beautiful the campsite was. I was personally
astonished by the cleanliness of the place - the area seemed utterly
tranquil. We drove through the campsite until we reached the area
where we were introduced to the facilitators who were named
Rancho, Mafede and Britney. We played little games introducing
ourselves so that the facilitators could get to know our names.
We headed up to the kitchen for a meal. Then, we were instructed
to change into clothes that are suitable for water activities so we
headed up to the cabins and changed. The facilitators took us up
to the grounds where we were paired up into teams of two and had
to help each other get through the obstacles. As we were resting
after another meal, we were called to come out. The facilitators
led us to a park, were we were blindfolded and a student who
was not blindfolded gave us directions as to where to go. It was
a very difficult task to accomplish, but we accomplished it in the
end and that taught us the importance of friendliness towards the
disadvantaged .We then had supper, and were told to prepare for a
talent show before we went to our cabins.
The next day some of us took a shower and headed to the river
where we had to assemble a raft out of the materials given to us. We
did not have time to test the raft so we were quite hesitant to get on
the raft, but we relied on each other and trusted everyone who was
on the raft. We then ate and headed to the sports ground where we
formed teams and played a variety of sports. After that, we went to
the super tube to cool off while some went to the trampoline and
others played mini golf. Back at our cabins, we interacted with each
other - not as friends and not as schoolmates, but as a family.
On the last day of camp some of us did not sleep, because
monkeys and geckos were keeping us up. I had not slept since we
got there so I was feeling a bit tired we then went to have breakfast.
We went down to an open field and we were given paintball guns
and separated into two teams. I shot all my teammates for fun until
I ran out of ammo, so I ran away. We then were given an egg and
we had to build a nest for the egg. We gathered a few twigs and
branches to shelter our egg but our efforts were futile because
our egg did not survive the falling rock. That rock was big! We
then ate our final meal of the trip. We headed into a hall where
the talent show took place and different people exhibited their
amazing talents. There were great actors, spectacular dancers,
nice musicians, as well as astonishing magicians who blew away
everyone’s minds. We then took our final bow and thanked the
facilitators and teachers for a wonderful time. We had breakfast
before leaving the camp premises with new family members and
an understanding of one another. We also learned to appreciate
our hard working teachers - the trip showed us how dedicated and
passionate our teachers are and how far they are willing to go for
us. This trip was more than just a trip, it was a learning experience.
