OPEN DAY AND MARKETING
On 7 May 2016 the weather could not have been brighter and
more beautiful for our much anticipated Open Day. Many hours of
preparation had gone into making this day a success. At expos of
schools like Glenstantia Primary and Lynnwood Ridge Primary, as
well as at shops and businesses in our surrounding area, flyers and
posters had been distributed to announce the DSP Open Day.
Attendance by visitors was once again good and many a learner
has since joined the school.
The Open Day is but one of the avenues we choose to market
the school. Most of us are familiar with the A1 street posters for the
Open Day and the Oktoberfest that are recognized by the black,
gold and red colours and our logo.
Some of you have probably come across DSP posters in Brooklyn
Mall, The Grove and Woodlands Boulevard. We advertise in the
newsletters of various estates, in the communal and daily newspapers,
on our website and Facebook, at our churches and embassies.
However, few of us might realize how much we market ourselves
within the school. One may think of the many fields of excellence
within our school family: Teachers’ approach to their tasks and to
the learners, welcoming visitors and making new learners feel at
home, our Monday morning assemblies and our easily recognizable
school clothing and logo all contribute to marketing our school.
Furthermore, our swimming galas and sports days enthusiastically
supported by the various houses, our robotics club and its achievements,
and the music presented by learners, contribute to the
school’s positive image. The prefects also assist in making our
school known as a friendly, supportive organization.
One just has to listen to the school hymn being sung by our
learners in the Aula to realize that they sing it with conviction and
pride in being part of the DSP. One could hardly market the DSP in
a stronger way!
I feel honoured to have been part of such a diverse and marvellous
school.
