A new tool for Alfven-Eigenmode analysis — •Stefan Zegenhagen,
Mirnov diagnostic has proven to be a useful technique to detect Alfven-
Eigenmodes in magnetically confined plasmas. The simple experimental
setup and easy operation has made it a widely used tool in fusion research.
But the interpretation of the data is usually quite complicated
due to relatively high noise levels, non-evenly spaced probes, and the
common coexistence of more than one mode. Here, a new analysis tool
is presented that is based upon the well known lomb periodogram. It
allows to perform a time, frequency and mode number resolved analysis
of Mirnov data while including the data of all Mirnov probes, which
may be unevenly spaced and sampled. First results for W7-AS data are
presented.
Electron cyclotron resonance heating in the WEGA stellarator
— •Yurij Podoba, Kinga Horvath, Heinrich P. Laqua, Johann
The plasma in the WEGA stellarator is created and heated by microwaves
at 2.45 GHz and Pmax=6 kW.
Initially, the microwaves were launched through a cylindrical tube the
from low field side of the torus, in O-mode. The resonant toroidal magnetic
field was located near the centre of the vacuum chamber.
Using this heating scenario, hollow profiles of el. density and temperature
were observed, and the maxima of density and temperature, as well
as the cut-off layer were located outside the last closed flux surface. Only
a small part of the heating power reached the centre region after OXB
conversion.
For the OXB process to be effective the wave has to be launched at an
oblique angle to the magnetic surface, it is 45 deg for 1st harm.
The OXB conversion efficiency was further improved by cutting the antenna
tube under an angle of 45 deg which increased the power launched
at optimum oblique angle. With this antenna we obtained flat or peaked
density profiles.
In this paper the latest results of antenna shape optimisation will be
presented.
Prior to the experimental campaigns with the newly installed Dynamic
Ergodic Divertor (DED) at the TEXTOR tokamak a series of 3D edge
plasma fluid simulations has been carried out. The main goal of these numerical
experiments is the identification of sensitive parameters. We have
employed the EMC3-EIRENE code, for the solution of the plasma fluid
equations coupled to a kinetic treatment of the recycling neutrals. The
3D magnetic field topology is obtained from a combination of magnetic
equilibrium calculations (DIVA) with field line tracing to account for
the DED perturbation field. Keeping the unknown perpendicular plasma
transport coefficients at fixed (anomalous) values typical for fusion edge
plasmas, we identify the combined effect of equilibrium and magnetic
perturbation as essential for the overall plasma dynamics in the DEDedge.
E.g., the pathways for particle and energy loss from the confined
plasma to the divertor target are shown to be significantly influenced by
this combined effect. For edge topologies typical for TEXTOR DED a
separate treatment of the ”laminar” (short field line) and the (partially)
ergodised field zone, as earlier proposed, seems to be ruled out due to
these sensitivities.
Modelling of the effects from the Dynamic Ergodic Divertor
(DED) on global plasma behavior in TEXTOR — •X. Loozen,
M. Tokar, and R. Wolf — Institut für Plasmaphysik, Forschungszentrum
Jülich GmbH, EURATOM Association, D-52425 Jülich, Germany
Control of transport processes at plasma edge of fusion devices is important
to maintain stationary operation of thermonuclear reactors. One
way to achieve this is the application of Ergodic Divertors (ED). ED generate
perturbations of the magnetic field at the plasma edge and change
significantly plasma transport properties. ED have been tested on several
tokamaks and recently, the operation of TEXTOR with the Dynamic Ergodic
Divertor (DED) has been started. In order to investigate the effect
of DED on the global plasma behavior some amendments will be made in
the 1-D transport code RITM. This code can not be, however, applied in
the laminar zone, where magnetic field lines make relatively short excursions
between intersections of divertor plates. By using a simple model
for the DED magnetic field, the width of the laminar zone is estimated
analytically as a function of the position of the resonant surface, the amplitude
and poloidal mode number m of the perturbation. It is shown
that the laminar zone width depends almost linearly on the perturbation
amplitude for high values of m. For low m values, the laminar zone width
increases non-linearly with the amplitude. It is also demonstrated that
the laminar zone becomes thinner with increasing mode number.
Coulomb-Kristallisation in expandierenden laser-gekühlten
