8.5.7 The route command<br />

The route command manually manipulates the routing tables. The command<br />

has the following syntax:<br />

route Command [ Family ] [ [ -net | -host ] Destination<br />

[-netmask [ Address ] ] Gateway ] [ Arguments ]<br />

The most commonly used flags are provided in Table 8-7.<br />

8.5.8 The tcpdump command<br />

Limits reports of statistics or address control blocks to those items<br />

specified by the AddressFamily variable<br />

-p Protocol Shows statistics about the value specified by the protocol variable<br />

Flag Description<br />

Command add Adds a route<br />

flush or -f Removes all routes<br />

delete Deletes a specific route<br />

get Looks up and displays the route for a destination<br />

-net Indicates that the destination parameter should be interpreted as a<br />

network<br />

-host Indicates that the destination parameter should be interpreted as a<br />

host<br />

Destination Identifies the host or network to which you are directing the route<br />

-netmask Specifies the network mask to the destination address<br />

Gateway Identifies the gateway to which packets are addressed<br />

The syntax of the tcpdump command is:<br />

tcpdump [ -I ] [ -n ] [ -N ] [ -t ] [ -v ] [ -c Count ] [ -i Interface ]<br />

[ -w File ] [ Expression ]<br />
