There are currently seven options defined, as shown in Table 4-1.<br />

Maximum segment size option<br />

This option is only used during the establishment of<br />

the connection (SYN control bit set) <strong>and</strong> is sent from<br />

the side that is to receive data to indicate the<br />

maximum segment length it can h<strong>and</strong>le. If this option<br />

is not used, any segment size is allowed. See<br />

Figure 4-13 for more details.<br />
