Figure 6-6 shows the tree formed between a multicast sender <strong>and</strong> the set of<br />

receivers. If there are no hosts connected to a multicast router that have joined<br />

this specific group, no multicast packets for the group should be delivered to the<br />

branch connecting these hosts. The branch are pruned from the delivery tree.<br />

This action reduces the size of the tree to the minimum number of branches<br />

needed to reach every group member. New sections of the tree can be<br />

dynamically added as new members join the group. This grafts new sections to<br />

the delivery tree.<br />
