These fields are defined as follows:<br />

OBJECT-TYPE A textual name, called the object descriptor, for the object<br />

type along with its corresponding object identifier defined<br />

later.<br />

SYNTAX The abstract syntax for the object type. It can be a choice<br />

of SimpleSyntax (Integer, Octet String, Object Identifier,<br />

Null) or an ApplicationSyntax (NetworkAddress, Counter,<br />

Gauge, TimeTicks, Opaque) or other application-wide<br />

types (see RFC 2578 for more details).<br />

UNITS This field is optional <strong>and</strong> applies only when the object<br />

maintains a value that is unit specific. For example, an<br />

object that monitors time might specify UNIT “seconds” or<br />

UNIT “minutes”.<br />

MAX-ACCESS Defines the access that a user has to this object. Valid<br />

values include accessible-for-notify, read-only, read-write,<br />

read_create, <strong>and</strong> not-accessible.<br />

STATUS Defines the status of the object. Valid values include<br />

current, deprecated, <strong>and</strong> obsolete.<br />

DESCR<strong>IP</strong>TION A textual description of the semantics of the object type.<br />

REFERENCE This field is optional <strong>and</strong> can be used to include a text<br />

string referencing some other document.<br />

INDEX This field is optional <strong>and</strong> is only used when the object is<br />

part of a conceptual row of objects.<br />

DEFVAL This field is optional <strong>and</strong> is only used when the object<br />

should have a default value.<br />

group The RFC 1213-defined group to which the object belongs.<br />

# The object’s position within the RFC 1213-defined group.<br />
