Boiler Explosions.<br />
March, 1893.<br />
(67.) — John Bergher and Ernest Erwin Berwin were thrown forty feet or more bj^<br />
a boiler explosion in Fayetteville, near Mascoutah, 111., on March 3d. <strong>The</strong>y fell in a<br />
large pond. <strong>The</strong>y were rescued from the water, and, although badly hurt, both will<br />
recover.<br />
(68.) — A boiler exploded on March 3d at a point fifteen miles north of Pittston^<br />
Pa. William Brown was killed outright, and Charles Sinsebaugh, Perry Refenburg,<br />
and John Schott were badly injured. Refenburg, who was the fireman, died in the hos-<br />
pital on the following Saturday, and at last accounts Sinsebaugh and Schott were ex-<br />
pected to recover.<br />
(69.) — On March 5th a boiler exploded in Hagerstown, near Baltimore, Md., fatally<br />
injuring Engineer Smith and Fireman Lefevre, and badly scalding Raleigh Hoke. Le-<br />
fevre's back was broken, and Smith was badly mangled. Both of these men will die.<br />
but it is thought that Hoke will recover.<br />
(70.) — A boiler exploded in Boscobel, "Wis., on March 5th, with terrible effect.<br />
Timbers and parts of the engine and boiler were blown in all directions, and the dam-<br />
age amounted to thousands of dollars. Fortunately nobody was killed.<br />
(71.) — A boiler exploded on March 10th in Montezuma, near Celina, O. Twa<br />
brothers named Miller were severely scalded, but both will recover.<br />
(72.) — On March 11th a boiler exploded at the Rupp Building, in York, Pa. Regi-<br />
nald Zeigler was badly injured, and another man slightly so.<br />
(73.) — A boiler exploded at the Clark mill in Marseilles, 111., on March 13th. W.<br />
H. Croker. the firemen, had just left the boiler-room, and so escaped injury. Some<br />
damage was done to the building.<br />
(74.) — On March 13th a boiler explosion occurred at Blufftown, Ind. <strong>The</strong> boilerroom<br />
was torn to pieces, and Fireman George Hart was badly bruised. Four other men<br />
were slightly hurt. <strong>The</strong> boiler was blown four hundred feet, cutting down trees in its-<br />
course, and carrying away part of Fred. Mosima's house.<br />
(75.) — A boiler exploded in St. Elmo, Ulster County, N, Y., on March 13th,<br />
Horace Lambert and George A. Shufelt were killed, and James Flanagan was so badlj-<br />
hurt that at last accounts his condition was critical.<br />
(76.) — On March 13th a boiler exploded in the Florence Mills, at Forest City, Ruth-<br />
erford County, N. C. Homer Harrell was instantly killed, and six others were seriouslj<br />
wounded, four of whom will die. <strong>The</strong> boiler-house was demolished.<br />
(77.) — Mr. Osgood's steam laundry in Marlboro, Mass., was seriously crippled on<br />
March 15th by the explosion of the boiler.<br />
(78.) — A boiler exploded in Columbus, O., on March 16th. It was marvelous that<br />
nobody was hurt. Engineer William E. Cromwell had left the boiler-room only a few-<br />
minutes before the accident. <strong>The</strong> boiler house was wrecked.<br />
(79.) — On March 18th there was a boiler explosion in Mahanoy City, Pa. John<br />
Schuyler and William Well were thrown high in the air, and were so badly bruised and
