palace of the jeddak and leapt from its side. But, as he ran up
the broad steps of the looming edifice, there were men who
watched his approach.
They were men from whose minds all thought had been
removed, as though by some cruel surgeon's knife—save for
the single, dominating conviction that anyone who entered
this place must die.
