Tarzan on Mars<br />

"When Zithad, Dator of the First Born, realized the<br />

Escarpment was being taken," replied Talu, "he abducted the<br />

other woman whom Tario claimed was Issus, and with him<br />

went Sardon Dhur, though whether as his prisoner or his ally<br />

I do not know; but it is feared that Zithad will yet claim he is<br />

Tharos Pthan."<br />

The Warlord was about to speak, but Tarzan sprang<br />

halfway down the steps of the dais, interrupting him. His gray<br />

eyes blazed anger. "Now, I must take matters into my own<br />

hands," he nearly growled. "But tell me the direction this<br />

Dator of the First Born may have taken, and I shall attend to<br />

my own affairs. The woman he has taken is mine!"<br />

"I will help you to find her," said Kar Komak. "As Warden<br />

of the Sacred Worlds, it is now my responsibility to seek out<br />

the Dator of the First Born and bring him to judgement, as<br />

well as Sardon Dhur, Hekkador of Therns."<br />

John Carter smiled. "You will require a great force to<br />

follow them, either to the Mountains of Otz or into Omean.<br />

Now that my fleets have been released from the influence to<br />

the nullifier beam, the message must have been sent to Okar<br />

to bring my heaviest striking force hither. I place it at your<br />

disposal, Tharos Pthan, since this fortress has already been<br />

reduced."<br />

The Jeddak of Jahar had been listening to Tars Tarkas,<br />

and now suddenly he demanded the attention of everyone<br />

present. "The Warlord has brought to Tarnath a worthy plan,<br />

which is a practical basis for an approach to the solution of all<br />

our problems. Now that the Prophecy has been fulfilled, I<br />

propose a universal truce until we shall have had a chance to<br />

assemble formally and plan the details of the future. I shall,<br />

for one, withdraw my forces in the outer world and give the<br />

cities peace!"<br />

One by one, the jeds and jeddaks drew their swords and<br />

acclaimed the idea, shouting, "For the Glory of Issus!"<br />

John Carter turned again to Tarzan, smiling faintly. "I<br />
