106.7 State the purpose, employment, and characteristics of the following:<br />

Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV)<br />

The Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV)—official designation AAV-7A1<br />

(formerly known as LVT-7) is the current amphibious troop transport of the<br />

United States <strong>Marine</strong> Corps and is also operated by other forces.<br />

The AAV-7A1 is a fully tracked amphibious landing vehicle manufactured by<br />

FMC Corporation. Has a crew of 3 with load capacity of 21 Combat Equipped<br />

Troops (@ 285 Pounds) or 10,000 Pounds of Cargo. Cruising Speed: Land: 20 to<br />

30 MPH, Water: 6 MPH. Armament and Ammunition: HBM2 Caliber.50<br />

Machine Gun and MK 19 MOD3 40 MM Machine Gun<br />

It is used by USMC Amphibious Assault Battalions to land the surface assault<br />

elements of the landing force and their equipment in a single lift from assault<br />

shipping during amphibious operations to inland objectives and to conduct<br />

mechanized operations and related combat support in subsequent mechanized<br />

operations ashore<br />
