The following safety rules apply at all times:<br />

• RULE #1 - Treat every weapon as if it were loaded.<br />

• RULE #2 - Never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot.<br />

• RULE #3 - Keep finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire<br />

• RULE #4 - Keep weapon on safe until you intend to fire.<br />

Ensure that the weapon is properly assembled and functioning properly for firing.<br />

115.5 Discuss the fieldstrip and reassemble procedures for the M9 service pistol.<br />

Disassembly of the M9 Pistol<br />

o Remove the magazine<br />

o Clear/unload the pistol<br />

o Allow slide to return fully forward.<br />

o Hold pistol in the right hand with muzzle slightly elevated. With<br />

forefinger press disassembly lever release button end with thumb rotate<br />

disassembly lever downward until it stops.<br />

o Pull the slide end barrel assembly forward and remove.<br />

WARNING<br />

Use care when removing recoil spring and spring guide. Due to the amount of<br />

compression, assembly will be released under spring tension and could cause possible<br />

injury to <strong>personnel</strong>, or become damaged or lost.<br />
