107.9 Discuss the differences between echelons of maintenance performed at
organizational and intermediate ground equipment maintenance.
Organizational maintenance
That maintenance that is the responsibility of and performed by a using
organization on its assigned equipment. Its phases normally consist of inspecting,
servicing, lubricating, and adjusting, as well as the replacing of parts, minor
assemblies, and subassemblies.
Intermediate maintenance (field)
Maintenance that is the responsibility of and performed by designated
maintenance activities for direct support of using organizations. Its phases
normally consist of:
o a. calibration, repair, or replacement of damaged or unserviceable parts,
components, or assemblies;
o b. the emergency manufacture of non-available parts; and
o c. providing technical assistance to using organizations
Depot maintenance
That maintenance performed on materiel requiring major overhaul or a complete
rebuild of parts, assemblies, subassemblies, and end-items, including the
manufacture of parts, modifications, testing, and reclamation as required. Depot
maintenance serves to support lower categories of maintenance by providing
technical assistance and performing that maintenance beyond their responsibility.
Depot maintenance provides stocks of serviceable equipment by using more
extensive facilities for repair than are available in lower level maintenance
activities.
