The core structure of <strong>SNOMED</strong> Clinical Terms ® comprises the following three tables:<br />

Relationships Table<br />

Each row in this table represents a clinical concept.<br />

Each row in this table specifies a term that can be<br />

applied to describe a single clinical concept.<br />

Each row in this table specifies a relationship between<br />

two clinical concepts. The nature of each relationship<br />

is represented using a special kind of clinical concept.<br />

The figure below illustrates the relationships between<br />

these tables.<br />

• A concept is described by the term in 2-n descriptions<br />

• Each description refers to one concept<br />

• A relationship refers to three concepts: a source, target, and relationship type<br />

• A concept is the source of 1-n relationships (except the root concept);<br />

• A concept is the target of 0-n relationships<br />

• A concept represents the type of relationship<br />
