3.2.11.5. Cross Mapping Rules<br />

The objective of the MapRule fields is to allow addition of machine-processable instructions that then allow<br />

automated cross mappings even in cases where there is more than one way to map a particular <strong>SNOMED</strong><br />

CT Concept. For Concepts with several alternative Cross Maps, the rules contained in each Cross Map should<br />

be checked to determine which is most appropriate in the context of a particular patient record.<br />

This section provides an initial syntax of mapping rules and discussion of some possible variants.<br />

Caution: Please contact the IHTSDO before using the rules document in this section. Recent work has<br />

been done on planning for rules-based maps to ICD-9-CM and ICD-10, which may result in a substantial<br />

revision of this section.<br />
