2.1.4.5. Query Predicates<br />

Queries to be applied to electronic health records that including <strong>SNOMED</strong> CT expressions may need to<br />

represent predicates that test post-coordinated expressions.The requirements for representing post-coordinated<br />

expression query predicates are closely related to the requirements for representing constraints on expressions.<br />

While a constraint specifies whether a particular expression is permitted in a particular situation, an expression<br />

predicate specifies the range of candidate expressions that match the query.<br />

2.2. Logical Abstract Models<br />

This section provides a logical abstract view of <strong>SNOMED</strong> CT components and derivatives; and the use of<br />

these to represent instances of clinical information. Subsequent sections provide detailed technical descriptions<br />

of the <strong>SNOMED</strong> CT components, derivatives and related artifacts .<br />

2.2.1. Logical Model of <strong>SNOMED</strong> CT Components<br />

The abstract logical model of <strong>SNOMED</strong> CT components is illustrated by Figure 8. The model is centered<br />

around the representation of concepts and their associated relationships and descriptions.<br />

Alignment between release files and the logical model:<br />

• <strong>SNOMED</strong> CT <strong>Release</strong> <strong>Format</strong> 2 is closely aligned with the logical model;<br />

• A mapping table (3.2.9.7) is provided with the <strong>Release</strong> <strong>Format</strong> 1 file specification to map <strong>RF1</strong> file structures<br />

to the abstract model.<br />
