In some cases, refinements within an expression may be grouped to represent association between a two<br />

different refinements. For example, a method and a target site or device as shown in Figure 20<br />

2.2.2.3.4. Expressions with multiple focus concepts<br />

Some expressions may have multiple concepts followed by optional refinements as shown in Figure 21<br />

The base of an expression may thus be one or more supertype concepts that are combined to produce a<br />

single meaning.<br />
