<strong>SNOMED</strong> CT <strong>Release</strong> <strong>Format</strong> 1 file and field names<br />

This section lists the file and field names used in <strong>Release</strong> <strong>Format</strong> 1 technical specifications within this guide.<br />

The scope of use of these names is limited to the tables in which they are used and the given definitions are<br />

not intended for use in any other context..<br />

Active concept<br />

A Concept that is intended for active use. This is determined by the ConceptStatus. Concepts with status<br />

value 'Current' (0) are always regarded as active. Concepts with status 'Pending Move (11) are regarded as<br />

active if the Concept is not yet accessible in the new target Namespace. See also Inactive Concept.<br />

Active description<br />

A Description that is intended for active use. This is determined by a combination of the DescriptionStatus,<br />

the DescriptionType in the Language or Dialect in use and the ConceptStatus of the associated Concept.<br />

Descriptions are active when the following conditions apply:<br />

• Associated with an Active Concept;<br />

• AND DescriptionStatus'Current' (0) or Pending Move (11);<br />

• AND DescriptionTypenot unspecified (0) in a chosen Language / Dialect<br />

Boolean<br />

A datatype that represents either true or false.<br />

Note: In <strong>SNOMED</strong> CT release files the value 0 (zero) represents "false" and the value 1 (one) represents<br />

true.<br />

Canonical table<br />

A table that contains the Canonical form expressions for all <strong>SNOMED</strong> CT Concepts.This table contains some<br />

(but not all) of the attributes present in the Relationships Table. It only contains the Defining characteristics<br />

required to distinguish a Concept from its most proximate Primitive supertype Concepts. The set of | is a |<br />

subtype Relationships excludes Relationships to Fully defined (non - primitive) Concepts and includes instead<br />

appropriate additional Relationships to the most proximate supertypes.<br />

Note: ? Component Table name in <strong>SNOMED</strong> CT <strong>Release</strong> <strong>Format</strong> 1: shouldn't this be deleted as it is a <strong>RF1</strong><br />

artifact?<br />
