3.2.7.2.7.1. Impact on Descriptions<br />

The table below shows the permitted DescriptionStatusvalues according to the ConceptStatusof the associated<br />

Concept.<br />

When the Status of a Concept changes, the DescriptionStatus of all associated Descriptions is checked:<br />

• If it is in the list of permitted values for the new ConceptStatus it is not changed;<br />

• If it is not in the list of permitted values for the new ConceptStatus, it is changed to the default value listed<br />

for that ConceptStatus.<br />

Note that Descriptions that are already inactive at the time that a Concept is inactivated are left unchanged,<br />

while active Descriptions are changed to the value " Concept inactivated".Thus Descriptions that were current<br />

at the time a Concept is inactivated have DescriptionStatus = 8. However, valid Descriptions of a limited<br />

Concept remain are marked as limited (DescriptionStatus = 6).<br />

3.2.7.2.7.2. Impact on Relationships - General issues<br />

When a Concept is inactivated its Relationships are reassessed to avoid anomalies in the structures of<br />

<strong>SNOMED</strong> CT. The required and permitted Relationships following a change in ConceptStatus of one of the<br />

Concepts involved in the Relationship are summarized below.<br />
