Subsets may be used to derive tables that contain only part of <strong>SNOMED</strong> CT. In some cases, these cut-down<br />

"Standalone subset" tables may also be centrally distributed (e.g. a release table containing only Descriptions<br />

that are valid in a chosen language). The Subsets described in this guide are additional tools for enhancing<br />

the usability of <strong>SNOMED</strong> CT.<br />

Complete technical information on subsets, including the subset table design can be found in the Subset<br />

Mechanism (3.2.9.4) specification.<br />

4.4.3.1. Subset Types<br />

<strong>SNOMED</strong> CT supports the Subset Types listed in the following table.<br />

Summary<br />

The Descriptions applicable to a Language or Dialect.<br />

May indicate whether each Description contains the Preferred Term,<br />

Synonym, or Fully Specified Name for the associated Concept in<br />

that language or dialect.<br />

The Concepts applicable for a particular Realm.<br />

May assign priorities to Concepts appropriate to the Realm.<br />

The Descriptions applicable for a particular Realm.<br />

May indicate whether each Description contains the Preferred Term<br />

or a Synonym used in that Realm.<br />

The Relationships applicable to a particular Realm.<br />

The Concepts applicable to a particular Context Domain.<br />

The Descriptions applicable to a particular Context Domain.<br />

A set of Navigation Links representing an ordered hierarchy<br />

appropriate for display and user navigation.<br />

Indicates the suggested priority among sets of Descriptions<br />

containing identical terms.<br />

The format of the Subset Members Table appears quite simple, containing only 4 fields:<br />

• SubsetId<br />

• MemberID;<br />

• MemberStatus<br />

• LinkedID.<br />
