brown, 78-182 u . Pycnospores cylindrical, rounded at the ends, hyaline,<br />

1-3 (usually 3) septa, 17-28 X 2.8-4.0 u . Perithecia subepidermal,<br />

globose, with a short papillate ostiole, dark brown to black, 100-240,u<br />

in diameter. Asci cylindrical to clavate, bitunicate, 8-spor ed, 51-80 X<br />

9-12 u , Ascospores biseriately arranged, straight or slightly curved,<br />

3-sept at e, constricted at the septa, often with the second cell from<br />

apex somewhat enlarged, light brown, 19-28 X 4.4-5.6 u ,<br />

Imperfect stage: Septo ria nodorum (BERK.) BERK. & BR. f. sp .<br />

hordei f. sp. nov.<br />

Type specimens have been deposited in the Herbarium of the<br />

Department of Plant Pathology, The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural<br />

University, Copenhagen, and at the Centraalbureau voor<br />

Schimmelcultures, Baarn, Holland.<br />

The formation of t he new infraspecific taxon Leptosphaeria nodorum<br />

MULLER f. sp. hordei requires (International Code of Botanical<br />

Nomenelat ure 1966, art 25 and 26) that Leptosphaeria nodorum<br />

MULLER which eauses glume blotch of wheat is also given the taxonomic<br />

rank of a [orma specialis as follows:<br />

Leptosphaeria nodorum MULLER f. sp. nodorum. Imperfect stage:<br />

Septoria nodorum (BERK.) BERK. & BR. f. sp. nodorum. The nomenclatural<br />

type of this fungus is Leptosphaeria nodorum MULLER.<br />
