Saints and OtherWorld Religions<br />
Whilst the concept of sainthood is essentially a Christian one,<br />
it is clear that many other world religions view certain individuals<br />
as in some way sacred or holy.<br />
It is interesting to note how many parallels exist between<br />
apparently different cultures and observe the ways in which<br />
different religions with common roots have intertwining features.This<br />
is clearly demonstrated by the fact that certain figures<br />
and individuals, amongst them a number of Christian<br />
saints, have come to be revered by a number of different religions<br />
and faith systems.<br />
Angel Gabriel<br />
The Archangel Gabriel is of great significance within the<br />
Abrahamic religions of Christianity, Judaism and Islam.<br />
Gabriel is consistently envisioned as God’s messenger and his<br />
name means‘man of God’. He is conceived of as being second<br />
only in importance within the Heavenly Host to theArchangel<br />
Michael.<br />
In the Old Testament the Archangel Gabriel helps Daniel<br />
to interpret his visions (Daniel 8: 15 and 9: 21). In the New<br />
Testament, Gabriel appears to the aged Zechariah and tells<br />
him that his wife will give birth to the prophet St John the<br />
