Supt. J. Lauuaer was seriously injured. <strong>The</strong> exploding boiler was blown through the<br />
roof of the building, and a considerable portion of the building itself fell in.<br />
(197.) — A boiler exploded on July 13th on the steamer Montour, as she was getting<br />
\\\) -team, at Sunbury, Pa., for an excursion on the Susquehanna river. Pilot George<br />
Frymire was killed and his body was blown into the river, from which it wasj-ecovered<br />
next day. A number of boys were fishing near by. and several serious casualties occurred<br />
among them. Allen K. Fetzer and his brother, Arthur M. Fetzer, were killed, and<br />
Charles Keller and Frank Keller were fatally injured. William Pullen, Harry Adams,<br />
and several others were also injured to a lesser extent. <strong>The</strong> Montour was a modern<br />
boat, and was elegantly fitted up. She was seriously damaged, but we have seen no<br />
estimate of the property loss.<br />
(198.) — On July 17th a boiler exploded in Dunn & Holcomb's sawmill at Magee<br />
Run, Warren county. Pa., two miles up river from Tidioute. <strong>The</strong> mill was completely<br />
demolished, and fireman John Williams was badly scalded. <strong>The</strong> boiler was thrown<br />
fifteen rods, wrecking a log train and demolishing several cars.<br />
(199.) — On July 20th a threshing machine boiler exploded on George McKinley's<br />
farm at Hunter, O. T. We did not learn of any personal injuries.<br />
(200.) — A boiler exploded on July 20th in the elevator at Yelma, near Taylorville,<br />

(201.) — A tube bursted on July 22d on the steamer Julia, in Jamaica Bay, near New<br />
York city. <strong>The</strong> four hundred passengers were badly frightened, but nobody was hurt.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Julia, which was disabled by the accident, was taken in tow by the Sunshine.<br />
(202.) — On July 22d the torpedo boat Stringham went out from Newport, R. I., for<br />
a ^peed run over the measured mile course. When she was just outside the breakwater,<br />
a tube gave out in her after boiler, and the boat returned to the torpedo station. Six<br />
men were scalded by the accident. <strong>The</strong> cause of the trouble is not clear, as it is said<br />
that the pressure on the boiler was light, compared with the load for which it was<br />
designed.<br />
(203.) — A boiler exploded on July 22d in Betzman & Kerth's creamery at London,<br />
near Cambridge, Wis. <strong>The</strong> building was considerably damaged.<br />
(204.) — On July 22d a boiler exploded in Lyons, Swift & Co.'s lumber mill at Bon<br />
Secour, Baldwin county, Ala. Engineer S. S. Hatt was killed, and fireman Robert Hayden<br />
was injured. <strong>The</strong> property loss amounts to several thousand dollars.<br />
(205.) — <strong>The</strong> boiler of a threshing machine exploded on July 22d on Clinton Boyd's<br />
farm, some three miles north of Ashland, Ohio. Jay Jackson, John Wertman, John<br />
Kissell, and George Beymer were severely injured.<br />
(206.) — A boiler exploded on July 23d, near Abilene, Kans. Otto Krutze was<br />
scalded so badly that he is not expected to recover, and two other men were also burned,<br />
though not so seriously.<br />
(207.) — Herbert Schiffer was fatally scalded on July 23d by the explosion of a<br />
threshing machine boiler at Ridgedale, Iowa. He died a few hours after the accident.<br />
(208.) — On July 23d a boiler exploded at Arthur Robertson's oil wells at Tilson-<br />
burg, Ont. <strong>The</strong> boiler was thrown 100 feet, and three men who were working around it<br />
at the time had narrow escapes from instant death.
