physical origin of your Emotional Plane. The beginning of life in the emotional
body. Physical aspects of your emotions. Reproduction. Birth of rhythm and flow.
Mother of Mothers. The ultimate female. In any position this may be a figure of
great importance to the readee, such as a teacher or guide. The root of all feminine
principles. Subjectivity. Guardian of alternatives. Knowledge of the other. Concerns
of the element Water. Motivation. Fertility. This is the Gain principle in the
Physical Plane of Earth, from which comes our concept of mother Earth as the
source of life. INVERTED: Distortion in the form of too much or too little in the
above meanings. Too much or too little physicality in the emotions, sex.
UPRIGHT: Here is the third stop on the journey. It is the physical origin of
your Menu Plane. The beginning of life in the mental body. Education. Knowledge.
Teacher of teachers. Student of students. Chief of scribes and communication.
Record-keeping. History. Oracles and prophets report here. Head
administrator. Administration and government. Confucianism (professional,
ordered control of society). Principles of civilization. Mental guide. Birth of
logic and reason. Correctness. Original child of original duality: As the number
1 is thesis and the number 2 is antithesis, so the number 3 is synthesis.
Mother of resolve and resolution. Embodiment of the male and female intellect.
Authority figure. As opposed to the nurturing side of the female, here is
the organizing and ambitious side aspiring to the best for herself and her brood.
Remember that The Empress represents these qualities in all of us, female and

earthly administration of The Emperor. Here is the origin of duty and conscience.
A master at the science of influence, the political spirit. Male authority
figure with ultimate responsibility for making things work in the physical world.
There is no earthly authority higher, and no responsibility greater, than this
archetype. The buck stops here. Here is Structure, foundation. This archetype
is the magnet that holds society together. All that applies to 4s in the four suits
of the Minor Arcana is applicable here. Here is the person in the Earth plane on
whom we can rely for fair judgement and intuitive common sense. He is the
leader, and a leader among leaders. The epitome of self-sufficiency, so efficient that he can provide
