dream for a limited, probably a fantasy, world or a piece of the real world frozen in time. At the
other extreme, there is a distortion in the vein of “save the world” or of wanting to conquer the
world, to possess it.
7 GOVERNED BY THE CHARIOT: PHYSICAL RESOURCES, MEANS TO ACHIEVE
UPRIGHT: The world may be in front of you, but it is also behind you. You have a broad base of
experience, in some cases extensive travel. This is as solid as a foundation can get. You could do
your thing anywhere, succeed with any group of people. INVERTED: The world that you have
depended on may not be as you left it; it may be changed, perhaps smaller. At another extreme, the
suggestion is that you need to pare down the size, the contents of what has been your world.
8 GOVERNED BY STRENGTH: EMOTIONAL RESOURCES, ENERGY
UPRIGHT: The scope of your awareness and level of sophistication, together with the sheer number
of people that you relate to successfully, give you emotional bulwark that you can rely on with
confidence. Your creative output is prodigious. INVERTED: You may be in the wrong setting,
trying to center yourself in someone else’s world rather than your own. At another extreme, you
could well be overextended, and would be stronger if you could cut back on responsibilities and on
the length of your supply lines.
9 GOVERNED BY THE HERMIT: BELIEF SYSTEM; BASIS FOR DECISIONS
UPRIGHT: Your beliefs are rooted in the real world, in the approach the Greeks called stoicism,
the acceptance of the world and one’s place in it as fact, as reason, as good, and to work from there.
Here, too, are the roots of Gnosticism, for this faith in the world is at once both faith in self-will and
God’s will as facets of universal will, here symbolized as will of The World. The search for knowledge
of the other, of what is beyond the veil, is in order to use that knowledge/gnosis for the
betterment of creation, not to escape it. INVERTED: Here are numerous distortions which twist, or
altogether disavow, the hermetic dictum “as above, so below.” The viewpoint may be of a world
bigger or smaller than it actually is—on the one hand, a material world that is everything, the
universe itself, no afterlife, no above. On the other hand, a diminution of the material world putting
it down as something much inferior, much less than the Divine, when in fact it is God personified.

UPRIGHT: Look up to see the image of the world to which you want to belong. You are being filled
with the inspiration, the knowledge which could transform the world in man’s image, in your image,
of those things which are best in you. Here then is a look at what is best in man, in you. INVERTED:
The world can be no better or no worse than we make it.
11 GOVERNED BY JUSTICE: STATE/CONTENT OF MIND
UPRIGHT: There is a justifiable sense of accomplishment, as you reap the rewards of success for
past efforts, for having done the right things at the right time. Much of your mental Karmic Contract
has been achieved and you will now put the icing on the cake. Your awareness of the bigger picture
is astounding, to you as well as to others, for your pride is also humble. INVERTED: At one extreme,
is the recognition that your world is a little smaller. At the other extreme, your world is much bigger
than you realize. There may be hubris here. Ironically, sometimes the achievement is noteworthy
only to be spoiled by a sense of pride or arrogance that is bigger than the accomplishment.
12 GOVERNED BY THE HANGED MAN: STATE OF EMOTIONS, SUBCONSCIOUS
UPRIGHT: The heart is embracing large scale goals, identifying with the agenda that includes
universal mind. Heart is happy with the ego and its programs and is lending it energy for its
growth and transformation into the superego of higher mind. There is enjoyment of success.
INVERTED: Heart is not pleased with the world situation. It aches to see things otherwise, in
spite of your achievements. In another extreme though, the heart does not agree with your mind’s
view of the world.
