lessons represented by the 22 Majors. The author also refers to these 56 cards as the Minors.
Mini-Journeys: The paths of experiences and lessons to be learned in the four Planes of
the personality: Physical, Emotional, Mental, and Spiritual Journeys.
Path: The link through sequential events in the linear time of the present lifetime, whereby
we are gaining the experience and knowledge of our chosen lessons and increasing our
awareness of universal consciousness.
Pips: The 40 numbered cards, Ace to 10, in each of the four suits of the Minor Arcana.
Planes: The four horizontal rows in the Karmic Spread: the Physical Plane, Emotional Plane,
Mental Plane, and Spiritual Plane. They are the four aspects or levels of the personality.
Position: Any of the 22 locations on which cards fall in the Karmic Spread, such locations
being created and defined by the grid formed by the intersection of the Planes (the horizontal
rows) and the Stages (the vertical columns).
Provider: The Divine source of all information given to the reader in the interpretation of
any layout using the Karmic Spread.
Questions Index: The author’s reference system for recording: 1) questions that you feel
the Tarot should be able to provide answers to, and 2) where in the Karmic Tarot system
(which positions in the Karmic Spread and which cards in the deck) you can expect to look
for and find the answers to these questions.
Reader: The person receiving information from the Provider by interpretation of the 22
cards distributed in a layout using the Karmic Spread.
Readee: Known in most Tarot literature as the querent, this is the person for whom the
Karmic Spread is being interpreted.
Reincarnation: The belief that we incarnate in a series of lifetimes that represent continuity
in our education toward universal truth.
Row: In all references to the four planes of the personality and the four Planes of the Karmic
Spread, the organization of the information horizontally is referred to as being in rows.
Royal Court: The four Court cards (Courts) that represent the strongest Court card in
their respective suit; they are in essence the King of the Kings, the Queen of the Queens,
the Knight of the Knights, and the Page of the Pages. Specifically, they are: the King of
Pentacles, the Queen of Cups, the Knight of Swords, and the Page of Wands.
Sine Curve: Mathematically, an S-shaped curve described by the equation y = sine x. But
used by the author in reference to its shape and the connotation of oscillation, pulsation,
up/down, phasing, rhythm, waves, duality, etc.
Soul: The innermost part of the human condition that seeks its identity in the identity of
the Provider.
Source Definitions: Definitions of all the sources of influence from which are derived: 1 )
the meanings of the 22 cards of the Major Arcana and 2) the meanings of the 22 positions
in the Karmic Spread.
Spread: Any pattern of positions designed to accept the laying out of Tarot cards for the
purpose of interpreting a Divine message from the Provider.
Stages: The seven vertical columns in the Karmic Spread representing the seven Stages of
development during the lifetime; used to mark chronological stages and stages of evolution
of consciousness.
