5 GOVERNED BY THE HIEROPHANT: SYSTEMS BORN INTO, SOCIETAL INFLUENCE
UPRIGHT: Spirituality, not religion, was the mark of this early environment. Principle, understanding,
balance, dedication, all these and more were the norm. Here was a nest from which a prize
swan could emerge with full spread wings ready to fly. INVERTED: The adults in this environment
were much advanced, but they may have had difficulty even at such heights. Spiritual vertigo,
egotism perhaps.
6 GOVERNED BY THE LOVERS: EMOTIONAL TAPES, BASIS FOR RELATING/CREATING
UPRIGHT: The passion here at such a young age is hard to imagine. It is filled with such spiritual
fervor—a depth of love that usually requires years of study and experience—but the love of God
which strikes every mortal heart every second of every day can be returned by any of us, even at such
an early stage. This passion is purely and simply love of the spirit that fills man, love of God.
INVERTED: This love of godly spirit, however noble, must not be in lieu of worldly love or it is not
Godly spirit. Even the recluse, the monk, the ascetic, to be on the proper path, must love the world
and all its material wonders and be intimately and intricately involved with its progress.
7 GOVERNED BY THE CHARIOT: PHYSICAL RESOURCES, MEANS TO ACHIEVE
UPRIGHT: To others, your resources may seem as magic, for what you need is always at hand when
you need it. It may not, however, be there the day before. This path never asks for more than it needs,
allowing the world resources to be allocated when and where the need is greatest. It has no need for
stockpiling against the advent of disaster. INVERTED: There may be the temptation to perform
magic, thereby distorting the spiritually equitable distribution of material resources.
8 GOVERNED BY STRENGTH: EMOTIONAL RESOURCES, ENERGY
UPRIGHT: There can be no greater strength than this archetype provides. It is the key to power and
in its healthy state, balanced between self-will and the will of God, it can provide the energy to feed
any emotional or creative need. INVERTED: This energy can be strong but short-lived, and it can be
misdirected.
9 GOVERNED BY THE HERMIT: BELIEF SYSTEM; BASIS FOR DECISIONS
UPRIGHT: This is a belief in belief itself. This is the self that believes in God, and the God that
believes in the self. This is self believing in self, God believing in God. This is the head that believes
in the tail of the ouroborus; the tail in the head. This is the yin that believes in the yang; the yang in
the yin. This is the above that believes in the below; the below in the above. This is the inner that
knows the outer, the outer that knows the inner. INVERTED: Here is the mind that knows all of the
above, and yet there is still a hesitation to give oneself over to the realization, for truly one’s previous
identity merges with the other when we do let go.

UPRIGHT: This is the work for which you were born. Accomplish well what is on your table now
and more will be given to you, and more, and more. INVERTED: What you have presumed was your
work is the work of another.

UPRIGHT: You are aware of the importance of this time and of what you are doing. It is both
difficult and easy, for it is right and it feels right. INVERTED: The present work situation does not
add up for you. Your evaluation may be correct; this may not be the correct work. Or, this may be
the correct work and it is your evaluation, your attitude that is in error.
12 GOVERNED BY THE HANGED MAN: STATE OF EMOTIONS, SUBCONSCIOUS
UPRIGHT: Here is energy and motivation of the highest order for the worthwhile purposes at hand.
INVERTED: Your heart is having difficulty offering up the energy, the motivation you need if you
are to meet this task. At another extreme, your heart may be offering too much energy for the
situation, or energy for the wrong situation.
